MARK ALAN SANBORN

Mark graduated from Penquis Valley High School, Milo, in 1977; the University of Maine at Machias, in 1983; and earned a Master of Education degree from the University of Maine in 1994. Mark was a proud member of Penobscot Indian Nation, and a tribal employee for 25 years. Mark touched many people with his intelligence, his wonderful sense of humor, his vast knowledge and taste in music, and by sharing his love of Ebeemee Pond. In addition to volunteering for Project Linus, Mark was active in Brownville and Penobscot Nation communities. He was a member of Penquis Valley High School Alumni Association.
Mark was predeceased by his father, Alan. Mark shared a 32-year honeymoon with his wife, Merlene. He was a devoted dad, hero and mentor to their children, Matt Sanborn and his girlfriend, Sarah Lingley, of Bangor and Mike and Heidi Sanborn of Glenburn. He leaves behind his mother, Helene Sanborn of Milo; brothers, Brian and his wife, Laura, and children, Jennifer, Tristan and Brandon, of Sangerville, and Eric Sanborn of Portland; and his sister, Renee Sanborn and her son, Evan, of Indian Island. Mark will be greatly missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, numerous friends and the entire Philbrook family. He treasured his time with family and close friends, especially Dave Philbrook, Monte and Denise Miller, and Karen and Scott Keim.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, March 26, at Brownville Community Church officiated by the Rev. Ann Purdy with speakers Greg Buckley, Mark’s uncle; and his friend, the chief of Penobscot Indian Nation, Kirk Francis. A memorial scholarship fund will be established in Mark’s name for a Penobscot tribal member attending Eastern Maine Community College.
